England North - Royal Liverpool - Hoylake - 7128 yds - Par 72

Since 1967 when the Royal Liverpool Club at Hoylake hosted the British Open for the last time, it has largely been forgotten by the golfing public.

If rumours are to be believed, the course on the Wirral is being seriously considered for a return to the Open Championship rota in the next 10 years.

On the face of it, Royal Liverpool has the least spectacular setting of all the Open venues. Although there is a ridge of sand hills which are encountered between the 9th and 12th holes, the rest of the land is basically flat.

However the holes are subtly demanding holes requiring both power and precision. The 17th is a fabulous “match-decider” measuring 420 yards. The second shot here must be played with a medium-to-long iron to a green set at an angle between bunkers on the left and an out of bounds fence behind and to the right.
